Knitting While Watching Movies Gains Popularity
There’s an interesting event taking place at a movie theater in Vienna, the capital of Austria. About 200 people gather to watch a movie while knitting.
The event was started by Luisa Palmer. During the pandemic, many people began knitting alone at home. Palmer said, “Now that the pandemic is over, everyone wants to meet in person.” She holds this event once a month.
The lights are kept on during the movie. This makes it easier to see what they’re doing. It also encourages participants to chat with one another.
At this event, the movie isn’t the main focus. Knitting takes center stage. Sometimes, experienced knitters teach beginners.
“Now that we spend so much time in front of computers, it feels really good to move our hands and create something,” says Palmer. She adds that some people just want to “take it easy for a while.”
These “movie plus crafts” events are becoming popular in Europe and the United States.
