外国の文化が大好きになって人生が変わった経験はありますか？K-POPやK-ドラマは今や世界中で人気ですが、中東・アフリカ地域でも大きな人気の波を起こしています。今回は、エジプトに住む若者たちが、「韓国好き」という気持ちをどのように活かしているかを伝える記事を読みます。趣味が仕事になる瞬間、そして外国の文化を自分の国とつなぐ意味を一緒に考えてみましょう。
韓国とエジプトをつなぐ3人の若者
韓国のドラマや音楽は今、エジプトでもとても人気があります。今回は、韓国文化が好きなエジプトの若者3人を紹介します。
1人目は男性で、韓国語を大学で勉強しました。奨学金をもらって韓国に留学し、帰ってからは通訳の仕事をしています。大切な会議でアラビア語と韓国語を通訳したこともあります。「翻訳は言葉だけでなく、気持ちや文化を伝える仕事だ」と言っています。
2人目は女性で、韓国ドラマをきっかけに韓国料理が大好きになりました。韓国料理をしっかり学んで、カイロに韓国料理のレストランを開きました。お店ではキンパやビビンバなどの料理が食べられます。また、韓国ドラマも見られますし、ハンボクという韓国の服を着ることもできます。「料理を通して、韓国文化をみんなと分かち合いたい」と話しています。
3人目も女性で、もともと工学部に入りたかったのですが、成績が足りなくて入れませんでした。そのとき、韓国語学科を見つけました。韓国ドラマから自分との共通点に気づき、韓国についてもっと深く勉強するようになりました。そして卒業後、エジプトを代表するデジタル大使になりました。今はSNSで韓国語に興味のある人たちに情報を発信しています。
3人とも「韓国が好き」という気持ちからスタートしました。その気持ちが仕事になり、エジプトと韓国をつなぐ大切な役割になっています。

Three Young People Bridging Korea and Egypt
Korean dramas and music are currently very popular in Egypt. In this article, we’ll introduce three young Egyptians who love Korean culture.
The first is a man who studied Korean in college. He received a scholarship to study in Korea and has been working as an interpreter since returning home. He has even interpreted between Arabic and Korean at important meetings. “Translation isn’t just about words; it’s a job that conveys feelings and culture,” he says.
The second person is a woman who became a huge fan of Korean cuisine after watching Korean dramas. She studied Korean cuisine thoroughly and opened a Korean restaurant in Cairo. At her restaurant, customers can enjoy dishes like kimbap and bibimbap. They can also watch Korean dramas and try on hanbok, traditional Korean clothing. “I want to share Korean culture with everyone through food,” she says.
The third person is also a woman. She originally wanted to enter the engineering department but couldn’t get in because her grades weren’t high enough. That’s when she discovered the Korean Language Department. She realized they had things in common with herself through Korean dramas, which led her to study Korea more deeply. After graduating, she became Egypt’s Digital Ambassador. Now, she shares information on social media with people interested in the Korean language.
All three of them started with a simple love for Korea. That passion turned into a career and has become a vital role in connecting Egypt and Korea.
